How do I configure Microsoft Exchange Server?

I am using Office 2003. In my settings I entered smtp.earthlink.net when it
asks for Microsoft Exchange Server. But it still says I'm offline and I keep
getting a popup error message that says "check to make sure you are online
and using the correct server and mailbox name".

The problem is it shouldn't be asking you for Microsoft Exchange Server
because you don't have one. Go to Control Panel|Mail|E-mail Accounts|View
or Change Existing E-mail Accounts', select "Microsoft Exchange Server" and
click the "Remove button. Next, click the "Add" button, select "POP3", and
enter your earthlink SMTP and POP3 information when asked.
