How do I connect outlook 2003 to exchange 2000 through VPN

I can connect outlook 2003 to our exchange 2000 in the office but am unable
to connect on our secure VPN. Connection through the VPN is made & proved and
will work with Outlook 2000
Cached setting is ticked and all settings are as in the office that works
well, I don't want to go back to Outlook 2000 but this may be necessary until
I can get a solution
