How do I convert an Office trial version to regular with a CD?

I have a trial version of Office on my new laptop.

1. I went and bought the full version of Office on a CD and installed it
with a product key and everything.

2. But after that, the Office system still thinks it is a trial version.

3. The product key from my CD product key that I bought won't convert it to
the full version either, and I shouldn't have to do that anyway.

How do I remedy this?

Uninstall both the trial version AND the full version. Re-boot. Re-install
the full version.

Unless that CD is the exact same version as the trial version, it won't
work. And even then we'd strongly suggest backing up your files (just a
precaution), uninstall the trial, and install the paid version.
