How do I convert MS Word 2000 documents to MS Word 2003 ?

We have several documents saved from Microsoft Word 2000 ( 9.0.3821 SR-1 )
Windows 98. We have a new XP system with Word 2003. When we insert the disk
and open the word files they look like little boxes & nothing is readable.
What can be done ?

Don't open Word files from removable media. Copy them onto the hard disk
first and then try. Have Word open first, use File > Open and check you have
the right file format showing in the dialog.

If you saved these documents direct to disk from Word 2000 they may well be
corrupted. In that case you need to go back to the originals on the Windows
98 machine and copy them from the hard disk to floppy or CD using Windows
explorer. Then on the XP system copy them back onto the hard disk to open.
