How do I convert *.sam files into word 2003

I am trying to take files from a very old PC, running Windows 3.1 and Ami Pro
and convert the Ami Pro Files (*.sam) into Word 2003 format.

In trying to convert Amipro to Word, I downloaded the converter from
http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm . Now what do I do? Do I imstall the
files somewhere on my n hard drive, then open via the converter in Word?
Please explain to a dummy! Thankd.

Graham's web page actually includes instructions:

"Extract the CNV files to the folder \Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv. Merge the registry patches with your
registry (right click the patch in Windows Explorer and select Merge).
Restart Word to make the filters available. With older operating
systems, it may be necessary to reboot."

You'll need software such as WinZip to open a ZIP file (see
http://www.winzip.com); then extract the CNV (converter) file and REG
(registry) file. Just place the CNV file in the TextConv folder, and
right-click the REG file, choose Merge, and you are done.

Doesn't Windows from XP on allow ZIP files to be opened but not created? If
not WinZip or one of its clones will be required.
Double click on the downloaded file (it works like a folder) and you should
be able to see the content which is two files
Ami332.cnv (the converter)
and
AmiPro.reg (the patch)
If you are not displaying filename extensions they will look like
Ami332
and
AmiPro
Using Windows Explorer, copy the first to the existing folder
C:\ Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv
then again using that application, right click the other and select Merge.
This will add its content to the registry and thus display AmiPro as an
option in the file open/save dialogs of Word.

FWIW, generally, you should be able to skip the registry step (if someone's not comfortable applying a .reg file) by using Word
itself andturning on
Confirm Conversions on Open
in Word's Tools=>Options=>General and then opening a non .doc file.

That should read the converter folder content and do the update.
