How do I convert "System.mda" (Access97) to System.mdw ("Access200

I need to convert an Access 97 database (originally converted from a version
2.0 Access database) that has a workgroup file called "System.mda" which is
the hub in which all my users' permissions are housed (user-level security).
The conversion will be to Access 2003. I would like to upgrade the Workgroup
file to the latest version of "System.mdw," but I can't find any
documentation on this. Can someone please help me?

Thanks.

You can't (use a system.mda).

Though the system.mda/mdw will open the db when both are converted to later,
you'll get "No permission on MSysAccounts". Anyway it's easy enough to check,
try altering permissions or something.

This appears to be a bug, but anyway it's a fact.

If you can remember all the PID's/WID you can just recreate a new mdw. If you
can't remember that, you'll need to desecure and start anew.

(if the system.mdw was created in A97, there is no problem, or not this
problem.)

There is some documentation in the SecFAQ, from memory it says "don't convert
mdw's!". There is documentation there on desecuring I think.

I'm sorry, it's not the answer you want.

Your best option is to desecure in in 97, and then convert and resecure in
2003. By the way, permissions are not stored in the mda/w; they're stored
in the mdb.

Use the following tool to document the security in 97 before you desecure.:
dbUtilities 1.1 at http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm

Then you can use the following tool to assign permissions in 2003:

dbUtilities 1.0 at http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm
