How do I copy a shapes’ image only, and not the hidden Shape Sheet

I want the color and shading for an off-page reference shape, but I don’t
need to constantly jump to the reference page when I drop the shape on the
page, nor do I need to link to the reference page, since these are merely
hard copy technical drawings.

And I don't wnat to turn off Automation, because I think I will need it
later - how do I copy just the shape image?

since it is the shapesheet that creates the image, you would have to save
the shape into a different format (such as bmp, wmf, jpg, etc.) and then
paste the new image into the drawing.

Try using the Shape Operations to break up your shape into just the geometry
pieces. This recreates the shape with no extra behaviors.
