how do i copy onenote files from one PC to another?

I try to copy OneNote notebook files from my PC to my laptop (or even just to
a briefcase on the laptop), and I get an error message for only SOME of the
files:
Error Copying File or Folder

Cannot copy Side Notes: Access is denied ("Side Notes" is an
example)

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

Then there's an OK button and when I click it, the copy process ends. If I
then try to continue copying everything but the Side Notes (for example) it
potentially happens on another notebook file. In this way I lose several
files from the copy process, though usually the majority of them copy fine.

I've tried to unload the OneNote icon. I've tried to uninstall OneNote. I've
even tried to force the Read Only attribute on all the OneNote files, then
turn it off again--all AFTER uninstalling OneNote--and I get the SAME files
declaring that "access is denied."

Does anyone KNOW what the problem is and what I can do about it??

Off the top of my head it certainly sounds like OneNote is still loaded in
memory (despite your efforts) somehow. If you do a CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and look
at the Processes list do you still see OneNote listed there?

I too have had a similar problem copying the files from one computer to
another. I don't get the message all the time, but it says that it
copies and then is nowhere to be found when I look in the copied
location. I'm doing this at the moment to back up my files to a
network, or even an external hard drive. Thanks!

Ben,

Thanks a ton for the possible reason. But one question: Why in the world
would it matter?

Furthermore,
* What would be in these files that gives them "Access Denied" status so
that they are not copiable?
* If the software is completely uninstalled from the machine, what process
could there be that would "hang on" to the files?
* Is there anything about the mechanics of the software that would yield
this problem?
* Is there anyone else who has similar problems?
* What is Microsoft's strategy for synching such OneNote files between
machines, if it isn't to use the Briefcase?
* Wouldn't this software, of all "mainstream" Office applications, be the
most likely candidate for synching data files??

Just a few of the questions I have, but I'm preparing to adress your
solution in the next hour or so...
