How do I copy or create new guides?

perhaps this is a simple issue, but I am trying to copy guides (static guides), and am not able to do this anymore by pressing option and just drag an existing guide as it used to work in earlier PPT versions...

Make sure that you press the Option key down and then click and drag on the static guide to create a new one. You should see the plus sign next to your cursor if you've done it right.
If you click on the guide to drag it and then press option, it won't work. (It's rather unforgiving, hm.)

Also, be sure that you are dragging guides on the slide itself, not on the application background outside of the slide. Dragging static guides on the application background causes them to disappear.
