how do i create a desktop shortcut for office 2007 at startup ?

In earlier version of Office (say Office 2000) at startup, an icon (more like
a toolebar !) used to be created on the desktop top RHS. This was
customizable to show items (optionally) like word, excel, screensaver, etc.
After installing Office 2007, I find no such icon.
The OS remains the same viz. MS Windows XP Prof.
How do I get this to show on the desktop ?

That feature died with Office 2003 and you're encouraged to use Quick
Launch instead.

You can add icons for New Office Document and Open Office Document to
your Start menu.
These are not installed by default - you need to insert your Office CD,
click on "Add or Remove Features" - Continue - and expand Office Shared
Features.
Click on "New and Open Microsoft Office Shortcuts" and choose "Run from
My Computer
You can then pin these shortcuts to the top of the Start Menu.

The installation of Office2007 should have created two icons on your Start
Btn, ie New Office Doc & Open Office Doc

Nope - see my post, they are not installed by default in 2007...

My installation was successful and it is in my Start Menu but the link is not
active. The Open a Microsoft Office link works, but the New Microsoft Office
link is not. Has any one experienced the same?

It did create the two icons and the Open Office Doc works just fine, the New
Office Doc seems to be inactive. Nothing happens.
