How do I create a keyboard shortcut for a symbol on OneNote?

I am trying to create a shortcut for common symbols I use. I am currently
going to Insert--->symbol, which takes up too much time. When I attempt to
use alt+### that does not work either. I recently purchased OneNote.

First select a font, such as wingdings, that contains the right arrow
symbol. Then select Insert, Symbol. In Wingdings, the character code for a
right arrow is 224, so select Wingdings and then Alt+224 {numeric keypad}
will insert a right arrow.
