How do I create a link that modifies all similar entries in a docu

I seem to remember to that there used to be a way to create a link to all the
same entries in a document that when you are editing one you edit them all.
For instance, when I change the word "client" every incidence that is link to
this "client" changes to whatever I edit to like "Steve" for instance. Can
anyone help with this?
