Hello,

I have a Protected (custom designed) style template
and I want to generate some standard (repetitive) words
such as: NOTE, CAUTION and WARNING.

Is it possible to do this or will I have to type in these words each time?

I already have a style that will put the position the cursor where I want
the word to go, but now I want to auto-generate these repeating terms.

Thanks for any assistance.

Jim

Yes, this can be done. Add "numbering" to your style. You can type in any
sort of label you want for your "number" (such as Chapter or Part), but if
you select "(none)" as your numbering style, there will be no numbering.

Hi Suzanne,

I just figured out my problem.

Under the menu for "Customize Outline Numbered List", there is a MORE button
with a drop down arrow.

I clicked on the button and saw another tab setting that was enabled. This
after looking at all the other parameters and seeing no tabs set.

So, I am all set with that problem.

One more question, if I may..?

Do you know how to keep the document protected, yet enable a reviewer to
make highlights to words and to use the insert comment feature?

I would like for reviewers to highlight potential changes and insert
comments, but not change any other parts of the document (aside from
highlights)....

Thanks again,

Jim

Hello,

Is it possible to create a style that will generate two words on the same
line, that are separated by a tab?

I am trying to create a header style where I can click on a style type and
two words will be inserted on the same line. The two words will be placed on
the left and right hand side of the header field - on the same line. Is this
possible?

Also, I have seen a problem when I remove a section break on a blank page
and I lose my header and footer for the whole template? This is after
pasting in raw text to the pre-defined (protected) template? Is this a
quirk with word?

Thanks once again!

Jim

Thanks again,

You can protect a document for tracked changes. I'm not sure exactly how
this works, but in Word 2003, if you use Tools | Protect Document, you get
the Protect Document task pane, which allows you to check the "Editing
restrictions" box and then select various items. I haven't used this feature
at all, so I'm afraid I can only send you to the Help topics "Allow editing
in a protected document" and "Add or remove document protection for comments
and tracked changes."

The default Header and Footer style are already set up to do exactly this.
They have a center tab stop at the center of the line (3") and a right tab
stop at the right margin (6"). If you have changed the document margins, you
will need to move these tab stops to restore those positions. If you don't
need the center tab stop, you can remove it. Then just type the words to be
on the left, press Tab, then type the words to be on the right.
