How do I create/generate an action list of items from project plan

List out tasks so short but it would be nice to be able to generate action
items from those tasks -- so I don't have to keep a notebook full of Action
Items & Owners & Due Dates that if lost could be difficult at best to
recreate? There should be a way to tag a tasks/item & generate an action
item registry so that you remember to ask about it on your meetings & not
have to remember or refer to a notebook -- any recommendation would be
helpful -- thanks!

Flojoe,
Project is a scheduling & planning application, not a PDA. However,
Project does have a Notes field that you can track the type of
information you mention. You can also use one of the spare text and/or
date fields although spare text fields are limited to 256 characters.

Have you considered using Excel or Word for your action item list?
Depending on how automated you want to get, those apps can be linked or
otherwise tied to Project tasks as needed.

An action item is a task on someone's schedule. You can schedule the tasks
in project just like you'd alway do. Now, use the precanned reports (In
P2003 View/Reports). There are Assignment reports for "To Do" lists.

Hi John:

It's an interesting concept to get some automated Excel or Word apps linked
or
otherwise tied to Project tasks as needed can you please provide
instructions/steps on how I set that up -- thanks!

Flojoe,
Project can be "linked" to other applications in various ways - some
better than others. What is your end goal?

Also remember that "action" items constitute tasks and it is very likely
that they should be incorporated into the project plan itself instead of
tracked separately. Otherwise, why use Project?

John:

My goal is to have a current running list of action items that can be
discussed during our weekly meetings - thanks!

Flojoe,
Previously I mentioned using the Notes field in Project to track your
actions items. You didn't comment. Why won't that approach work?
