How do I create links from Table of Contents in PowerPoint?

S

Seeker

I have a Table of Contents in PowerPoint. It's not a detailed table. It
has only 4 categories. For example, my first area in the presentation is:
What I Bring to the Table. I want that first link to lead to slides 3 and
4. Can I do it with multiple slides?

Some of my other categories in the table include links to 6 pages. How do I
do that? Can I? Please contact via ICQ 2977100. I'll try to stay online
till I hear from someone!

Thanks!!!
Victoria

Glen: I'm not making it clear I guess. Ok... I have a menu (I am
having problems with that too). Creating action buttons makes you
create a link, right? So when I get that window to "go to" the slide I
want to include with the first topic, there is not just one page I want
to link to.

TOPIC A ... Links to a specific title (2 pages)
TOPIC B ... Links to a specific title page (6 pages)
TOPIC C ... Links to several pages with different titles (4 pages)

None of the links I've gotten from anyone show me how to do multiple
pages.

Thanks for your help.

You would link to the first page of the topic, I'd think. I mean, that's the
way most links from TOC work, don't they?

You could set up custom shows with each of your topics sections, I suppose.
Slide Show/Custom Show. Then you'd link to the custom show from your TOC and
select "show and return."

Hi,

Taj's tutorial can show you how to do the custom shows Echo describes, step
by step:

Hi Glenna!

I've tried to use that link, but it only mentions how to link from one
page to one page. My problem is how to get to MULTIPLE pages! Unless
I'm blind, it's not there. <grr>

There isn't such a thing that you can create in PP that is like a
color-coded tab sticking out of the side, is there? Can you somehow
shrink the page width (I'm running in landscape) by like 1/4" and then
just do a text box with colors linked to the table?
Appreciate your help!

Logically you cannot link to more than one slide because a link means a jump to
a slide so that you can view it. It sounds like you want to link to a "section"
and view the slides in that section sequentially and then return to the menu.
That is why Echo suggestion that you look at using Custom Shows. A custom show
is a logical grouping of slides within a presentation. If you link to a custom
show and specify "show and return" that causes it to automatically return to the
menu when the end of the custom show is reached.

Try it. Go to Slide Show > Custom Shows and define a New show, for example
slides 3 thru 5 and name it Custom Show 1. Do the same for slides 5-7 and name
that show Custom Show 2. Now on your menu, create a link to "CustomShow-1" and
specify show and return. Do the same to create a link to CustomShow-2. Now run
your show and see if it does what you want. Note that you create the links by
right clicking the object or text and selecting "Action Settings". On the next
dialog select Hyperlink To and scroll down to "Custom Show" and follow the
dialog. I would add another link on the Menu and link to End Show. I would
also go to Slide Show > Set Up Show and set it to Kiosk. These steps will
prevent the user from navigating anywhere unless they specifically click on the
links that you have provided. That gives you full control of how the show is
viewed.
