How do I create my own shapes

I want to create some shapes of e.g. special utility skids, power house and
other things - all to allow me quickly to create plans in visio showing a
certain solution's layout.

So - how do I create such shapes? If I could make them in AutoCad and import
them, that would be one way - alternatively in Photodraw or some other
drawing tool. I would like to be able to have properties on the shapes once
they are used.

Any hints and suggestions?

Visio has it's own line drawing tools. Pick up one of the books on Visio and
they will give a good description of how to create shapes. If you have
existing shapes in ACAD, they can be imported, but will require work.

Developing Visio Solutions by Microsoft Press is a good start.
