Sorry, the assignment units field is available in the Task Usage view
on the assignment row.

Sam,

There can be multiple resources assigned to a task each with different
assignment units, this is why there is no Assignment Units field for
tasks, only for assignments. By default if you've assigned the
resource to the task at any value other than 100%, Project shows the
resource assignment units next to the resource's name on the Gantt
bar.

I'm sorry, I don't know of any way to transfer the assignment units
data from an assignment to a task. You could try posting to the
developer newsgroup and see if one of the VBA gurus could help you,
but I'm not even sure it's possible.
