Suggest you clean the CD using a clean cloth moistened slightly, wiping
from the center outward. If your original CD is scratchy on the shiny
side, you may need a replacement CD. See this article for tips on
cleaning and info for ordering a replacement.

You may also want to try downloading the "full" version of the update,
then installing it offline after the Office CD has been inserted into
the drive and the activity light has stopped, and after you have closed
the Setup window.
BTW, suggest you install SP3 (instead of SR1) which includes all the
things from the prior updates. You can download it here:
