Hi Phil,
I have a word document that will not allow me to delete
it. Additionally, my antivirus software does not
recognize the file. When ever I try to run various virus
applications they abort when they get to this file. Can
anyone help???
Sometimes, booting Windows in Safe Mode, then choosing to
have the Command Prompt will let you delete the file at the
"DOS level". In case you're not from the older generation,
where we used to do this all the time, the Command Prompt
will look like this:
C:\
You type: DEL D:\Folder name\Folder name\
IOW, ChangeDirectory to the full path where the file is
located. Then press ENTER.
If it still can't be deleted, then the file may be seriously
damaged, or the place where it's stored might be. In the
first case, try moving the file into a folder where it's the
only file. Go back to the boot command prompt and type:
DEL C:\JUNK\*.*
to delete all files in the path you type in.
If that still doesn't work, you should try
check disk with defragmenting to make sure all damaged areas
on your hard-drive are blocked.
