How do I delete a jagged line across page

I put three asterisks in the center of the page to divide topics then hit
enter. Instead of the asterisks, I got a jagged line across the page and
cannot delete it. Can anyone help me to delete this jagged line. All I need
are the three asterisks.

I, also want to know how to delete a jagged line that appears across my Microsoft document and cannot be highlighted to deletion ~ the program acts like the jagged line is not there and it seems to be controlled to the text surrounding it.

Technicians at a computer repair shop locally looked at it and could not figure it out
