How do I delete a solid line formed after typing a series of hyph.

I was typing a series of hyphensand when I pressed "ENTER", the line turned
solid. I am unable to delete the line. It is not an underscore or a border
line. There is no small square boxes to point to (when I point to the line,
the entire paragraph becomes highlighted, including the solid line).
