How do I delete enterprise custom fields

G

Gilgamesh

I have inherited a schedule that was created using a template for Project
Server (hence my posting here) but we are not using Project Server for this
project, just plain old project professional 2003.
The template and now schedule has a series of customised enterprise fields
in it that are not relevant for this project (and are confusing given I am
using local customised fields).
I have used organizer to delete the enterprise fields from the schedule but
each time I close and reopen the schedule they come back.
Are there any suggestions on how to get rid of them permanently.
Thanks

Hi Gilgamesh,

You are on the right path with the organiser. Make sure that you have chosen
the right project ( on the right hand side of the screen), choose the field
you want to delete, highlight it and select the delete button.
Once done, save the project and you should have no more custom fields in
this project.
Let me know if that worked
thanks

I have seen issues with projects that come off of a project server
environment and retaining the enterprise fields and not allowing you to
delete them from the organizer. Here is a workaround I have used
successfully.

1. Open up a new blank schedule in Project Pro 2003 not connected to the
server.
2. Insert the troublesome schedule as a project via Insert>Project
3. Expand all the outline levels in the schedule so that the entire schedule
is expanded and all tasks are visible
4. Highlight all rows except row 1 which represents the project name
5. Click the outdent button (Project>Outline>Outdent)
6. Highlight the first row and delete it

You can now save this as your project and it will no longer have any
references to any old organizer values like enterprise custom fields, views,
etc.

Hope this helps,

I forgot to mention that in step 2 you need to make sure to uncheck the
option "Link to project" before you click "Insert"
