I've inserted a footnote into a document. However, the line that divides the
body text from the footnote text appears at about mid page. Clicking the show
all formatting button (reversed 'P') shows that there are about 10 returns
entered into the footnote before the footnote mark ('1') where the footnote
text is entered. These are grey, implying they can't be deleted (which they
can't!). Switching to header and footer view makes them appear black,
implying that they can be deleted - but it is not possible to highlight them
for deletion in this view.
How do I delete these return characters?
