How do I delete unwanted messages but don't have a delete button

I want to delete unwanted spoof or other messages from my "in" box but my
delete (X) button has disappeared. How do I get it back?

Is your standard toolbar turned on? View -> Toolbars -> Standard

If you can see the rest of the toolbar but not the (X) button right click on
the toolbar and choose Customize. Click on the Toolbars tab and reset the
Standard toolbar.

In the short term you can delete messages from your Inbox with the delete
key on your keyboard or by right clicking on the message.
