How do I determining area bounded by line drawn shape?

I am attempting to use visio to calculate the area of a shape created using
the visio drawing tools. This will allow me to determine material costs for
each shape.

Do you want the resulting value to be displayed on the shape? You can create
a data graphic and in the data field section, choose more fields. In there
should be a custom formula choice. In the formula you put Height*Width, and
you can have that value displayed anywhere on or near the shape itslef. Hope
that helps

I don't think it can be done. Unless by the brightest of the bright.
There is even an error in the length of a curve.

You are correct Philippe, there is no simple calculation that can be
done to determine the are of all shapes, for this you need calculus,
integration.
For certain shapes e.g. square/rectangle, other parallelograms,
triangle, circle then the area can be easily calculated, more
complicated shapes have more complicated formulae.
