How do I disable My Network Places

J

JerseyJoe

We have GPO's that remove all traces of My Network Places form the task bars,
desktop, etc...

However, it does no good when the users can get to it via MS-Word or other
office apps. Is there anyway to remove/lockdown/disable this part of Office?

It's Office 2003.

TIA!

Disabling features is rarely a successful method of security - and, in this
case, I don't think you can do it.

Personally I would disconnect the network cable.

Disabling "Netbios over TCP/IP" and disabling the Computer Browser Service
keeps Net'Places from working. But the real solution is to make sure the
NTFS and Share Permissions are correct on all resources so that is doesn't
matter what they see in Net'Places.
