How do I dissociate Windows Messenger from Outlook?

Mike

Windows Messenger opens automatically when I leave Microsoft Outlook running
for any amount of time. However, Windows Messenger isn't visible to me, I'm
not told that it's opening, logging in or running, and I can't close it -- it
doesn't appear on my taskbar or anything. Essentially, people will MSN me
when I had no idea I was online and, frankly, didn't want to be.

I figure Outlook is using Messenger for something... what? How can I break
this automatic association of the two programs, and protect my privacy in
terms of automatically and unkowingly being logged into Windows Messenger? I
have disabled Windows Messenger as a program on my computer every way I've
been able to figure out how, but its association and clandestine operation
behind the guise of Outlook persists!

Mike, there is a program called "Shoot The Messenger" created by Steve
Gibson that you can use.
His site qalso has an excellent program that scans your computer and lets
you know if any ports are open, etc.

My messenger was disabled by this program untill I installed Office and I
noticed the icon began appearing in the toolbar again. So, I shot it again
and it hasn't returned.
It doesn't prevent you from using it when you want.
