How do I download the Office Update ActiveX Control?

I just purchased Office 2003 and have not been able to get Word or Excel to
open any of my files. The programs say the files "are not available". Does
anyone know how I can fix this so I can use my programs. I try to get
updates and I get the message that Office Update ActiveX Control failed to
load. I also try to download the ActiveX control, but my computer never
finishes the download. Can anyone shed some light on this?

To fix the "not available" error message, disable the Office Plugin that
comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus. See
