How do I update my office xp standard when the update demands you insert your
office xp professional cd which you obviously do not have?

Because he's got the standard version of Office, not the professional
version!

I assume the OP has already tried to continue the update using the
standard Office CD.

Hi Dave,

There aren't separate updates for Office XP Professional
Edition and Office XP Standard Edition, but the MS Installer
expects to have access to the Edition of Office that was
used for installation.

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.
If the edition of MS Office XP name isn't a match for the
CD you do have you'll need to either contact the folks who
provided the software/installation for the matching CD or
backup your files - uninstall Office XP - restart the PC
and install again from the Office XP Edition CD that you
do have.
