how do I edit the content of a drop-down menu in excel?

Do you mean you want to change the selected item manually?

If yes, then in the Data Validation window, go to the Error Alert tab
and uncheck the -Show error alert after invalid data entry- checkbox.

If you want to change the list, then edit the original list.

Do you mean the menu that you see when you right click on a cell for example ?

range.
