How do I eliminate leading zeros from my worksheets?

I have a large excel file already that I am running
a match function on, and it will not work because somehow
there
are a few leading zeros in front of every cell.
How do I eliminate these?

It sounds like the cells may have been formatted as text first.

Select the column and format as general, then edit|replace 0 with 0. Excel will
see the cell as a real number, then.

(These are all numerals, right?)
