Hi,

Actually, you can't embed videos into PowerPoint. Videos are always linked.

In your web browser, if you right-click on a YouTube video you'll notice
you get information about FlashPlayer instead of the ability to download
the video file.

Instead, copy the URL from the information to the right of the video.
Past that into a web site that can download the file. I know of two
sites that do this for free:
http://www.mediaconverter.org/
http://www.mediaconvert.com/

The insert the movie using the Insert menu, movie toolbar, or slide
design placeholder.

If you download to .mov format PowerPoint Mac will play the video just
fine, but it is not cross-platform with PCs.

If you need to be cross-platform, then choose WMV as the file format,
but you also need to install the Flip4Mac QuickTime video codecs (free)
so that Mac PowerPoint can play WMV files:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx

When you want to make a portable version of your presentation, use File
Save As and choose PowerPoint package. Distribute the saved folder.

The next version of PowerPoint on Windows does embed videos, and I am
hoping this new feature also comes out on the next Mac version, due
"holiday 2010."
