How do I empty the inbox folder?

I just upgraded to XP and discovered the parish has 1058 unread items in
their inbox folder (total 5000 plus.) Short of deleting each individually, is
there any way to mass delete?

Press CTRL-A to select all messages and then press Delete. If you wish to
retain some of the more recent messages, then scroll to the oldest message,
click on it to select it, scroll to the most recent message you wish to keep
and, while holding Shift, click the message just older than the one you wish
to keep. This will select everything from the oldest to the one just before
the one you want to keep. Press Delete.
