How do I enable "Add to Dictionary" ?

I have searched the net far and wide, but no-one seems to address this issue.
I have located the Custom.dic file, but it is only 1KB, certainly not the
dictionary file I access.

I have reinstalled Office 2003 and searched the disk.

I used to add words to the dictionary all the time, but now that option is
grayed when I right-click a "misspelled" word.

I was even willing to purchase or download a dictionary from the net, but my
Google search bore no such results.

I do have access to the Encarta 2003 dictionary, but I see no way to access
it through word, let alone add to it.

Since I deal with a lot of recurring proper names and technical words, I
really need to know how to reactivate this feature.

Have you definitely checked that all the language settings are correct? If
you select Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar tab, click on Custom
Dictionaries... is the Custom.Dic showing? Are you able to select the
Custom.Dic and choose Modify? Do the entries in Custom.Dic all look OK (it
is a plain Text file, so there should only be a list of Words) and does the
box at the bottom show All Languages or some inappropriate language?
