How do I enter a subcontractor into my resource table?

I am not sure how to enter a subcontractor into the resource pool. Woulf
they be ebntered as a cost? A meterial? or Work? I cannot overallocate them
and don't want them to drive leveling. I just want to assign a cost fro as
many subcontractors as I may have to any task in the WBS.

What if my sub is a lump sum, like 6800 for a soils report? Do I enter his
standard rate as 6800/hr?

This would be one possible use of the "cost per use" field. The cost per
use is a fixed amount added to the costs for each task the resource is
assigned to. If he gets $6800 per report and he is scheduled to write three
reports, set his Std Rate to 0, OT Rate to 0, and Cost per Use to $6800.
Each report is a single task in the project. Assigning him to those three
tasks will show $6800 as the cost of each of them. OTOH, if he gets a
variable amount depending on the nature of the report, don't enter rates for
the resource at all ... instead use the task's Fixed Cost field to enter the
cost into the budget.
