How do I enter formulas in which I calculate using Bookmarks as in word 2003
where one could start using the fomula command on the Tables drop down menu.
Having found Ctrl F9 I can do this longhand but cannot inserting Bookmark
references is also long hand rather than from a list

In Word 2007, the Table tab of the ribbon appears only when the cursor
is in a table. The Function button is on that tab. To be able to use
it when there is no table, add the button to the Quick Access Toolbar.
The easiest way is to insert a table temporarily, right-click the
Function button, and choose Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

The dialog that appears when you click the button is the same as the
one in Word 2003, including the dropdown to choose bookmarks.

Sorry, the name of the button is "Formula", not "Function". The symbol
is fx, which my mathematician background tells me stands for
'function'.
