How do I enter math problems?

I want to use ONeNote to take notes for my math class. Frequently I have to
use algebraic expressions and symbols. How do I do this? I'm using One Note
on a desktop PC instead of a tablet PC.

That's a tough one - you might try using the Character Map (under
Accessories on the start menu) for the characters. Otherwise I'm afraid
there isn't any intuitive way to do it.

Another option would be to enter the equations in Word and then copy/paste
to OneNote.

Yeah, that's probably not going to be too easy to do, at least without a
pen.

With a tablet, it's not too bad in ink, if you tell OneNote to treat
everything as a drawing. If you let it try to treat it as text, you will
have horrible problems with it breaking up parts of the same line and same
formula into different, overlapping text boxes that move independently.
Subscripts, superscripts, and fractions get terribly screwed up.
(MS: Please fix? ;)

I am just now feeling this pain. I've used OneNote for the last two years in
my gradschool classes but I'm taking a statistics class now (my first grad
class in which math is taught).

Taking Ben's and Micah's excellent suggestions into account, I've added
another Note Flag called "Convert Me!" which I use to flag equations I've
drawn and which remind me to later on, take the handwritten equations,
recreate them in Office's Equation Editor, and paste that into OneNote.

In lieu of native equation support in OneNote, this seems like the best mix
of being able to quickly enter data during a class and still having something
useful afterwards.

I agree with Micah that this is a problem that MS needs to fix. Journal
does not seem to have this problem with text moving around and breaking up.

Treating everything as a drawing helps, but you loose the ability to insert
new writing space when note taking.

I do way too much note taking and technical type homework to be converting
equations.

Danny

P.S Would be interested in more discussion with students on how they use
onenote. I'm trying my best to go paperless this sumester.

IMHO there are 2 possible solutions and MS shoud do both:
1) General OLE support (used for equations in Word)
2) Native support of equations in OneNote
There is a disadvantage of the 1st - OneNote "see" only a picture that is
not as good searchable as native equation
