How do I extract an embedded object in a Word document

When I embed a spreadsheet in a Word 2003 document, it appears as an icon
with the original file name.

If I try to copy this into Windows Explorer, it appears as scrap.

If I open it and try to save it, it loses its original name.

How can I extract it with its original name (and preferably also its
original last modified date and time)?
