How do I find & install missing .dll files?

P

Paul Hodges

When using the spelling and grammar check tool in a newly installed copy of
Word XP (and after downloading SP3), I get an error message saying the
MSSpell3.dll, mssp232.dll, msgr??32.dll files are missing and the check
aborts.

If you don't get an answer here, try posting in
microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar.

Just search google or any search engine for the file name and you'll find
somewhere you can download the individual file for free.

Thanks for the thought, but I use my computer for work, and couldn't risk
installing a defective file from a public site. Also, I don't know where I
would need to install them once I have located them.

This can happen if Word thinks your text is in a language for which you
do not have proofing tools installed. To fix it, open a document where
this problem occurs, press Ctrl+A to select all of the text, and click
on Tools | Language | Set Language | <choose your language> | uncheck
the "Detect language automatically" and "Do not check spelling or
grammar" boxes | Default | OK. Then press F7 to rerun spellcheck.

Thank you Thank you Thank you... I've been struggling with this for almost a
year and my solution so far has been to open a new doc and copy the
unaffected text then retype... I've tried downloading everything and searched
troubleshooters. I'm so glad I found this posting and so glad your
instructions were easy to follow.
