How do I fix a run-time error shutting down word?

When I am working on a document a window will pop up that says. C++ runtime
error word will shut down. Something to that effect. Then all I can do is
close the message window, which in turn closes word and I lose my work. I am
running Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition. The other three
applications seem to work fine. Thank You.
