How do I fix an error that pops up when I open Word

Every time I open word, I get the following:

Microsoft Visual Basic:
Method 'Add' of 'CommandBarControls' failed.

WHY????

yes. i removed Microsoft Office and re-installed it, but still have the same
problem

The only reason I knew to ask was that I Googled your error message. One of
the sites had something about it - let me see if I can find it again.

relationship to Excel. I know don't what Word file has the toolbar
customizations in it. I'd start by renaming normal.dot to normal.old. That
certainly won't hurt and it may help.

That's not really the answer to the question that was asked.

Removing Office and re-installing it is hardly ever the solution to
problems, unless the hard-disk is reformatted at the same time.

Take a look in the Word Startup Directory and move any templates that are
there and rename the normal.dot template to normal.old and then start Word.

still can't figure out what happened.

You should find it in

c:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

You will find it in the folder specified for User Templates on the File
Locations tab of Tools | Options. In Windows XP, this folder is hidden, so
you must set the Folder Options in Windows to show hidden files and folders.
