How do I fix "an unexpected error occured" message?

While attempting to send a message, I received a prompt that said "an
unexpected error occured." I have never had that error message before. If
anyone knows how to fix that, I would be much obliged. I have repeatedly
tried to resend the message, cutting and pasting the text to other messages,
but I cannot send my message.
