How do I fix the Update Checker from stalling at 51%? In ENGLISH p

The automatic Office XP Professional Automatic Update Checker used to stall
at 40% but now it goes all the way to 51%. IN ENGLISH PLEASE, can anyone
tell me how to fix this problem?
