How do I get dates to update in Microsoft Project Master File?

I have created a master project file that contains all of our companies
projects. When I open an individual project and change the start date of the
next task (Example: we are behind schedule and I will need to start a project
at a later date) the date in the box changes. BUT when I close and reopen
the master file (all the projects are now collapsed) the date has not updated
UNTIL I open the project file - then it updates. Has anyone else had this
problem? I find it is difficult because if I create project reports I print
the incorrect project start dates.
