How do I get left rulers back after normal template has been corr.

With Word 2003, after opening a new template, my Normal template opens with a
left ruler that won't adjust. My co-worker experiences the same problem. The
page setup shows that the margins are normal, but in the print layout view
they're non-existant. Help!
