How do I get names to appear automatically in the To field?

I am trying to get Outlook 2000 to automatically let names appear in the To
and Cc fields of the message header. The program used to do this but has
stopped I believe due to updates. The names appear in the form of a drop
down box. Ie When I type J for John all names beginning with J would appear
in a drop down box. This no longer occurs. Can anyone help me?
