How do I get new windows to open in maximized view?

While taking an online Excel training course I clicked on the Auto Tile icon
to so that i could view the instructions and practice window at the same
time. Since then, whenever a new Internet Explorer window opens, it is
reduced to the size of the tiled practice window. How do I get the system to
go back to opening maximized windows as the default?

Thanks!

Hold down the Ctrl key, keep it depressed, and using the
mouse click File and then Exit on the menu bar. Do not
use the "X" in the upper right corner to close the window.

I tried this technique but it didn't work. I closed all my open IE windows
this way and then opened a new IE window which was maximized, but then when I
clicked on a link that opened another window the new window was reduced.
BTW: I don't have an Exit option when I open the File menu, but rather
"Close." Could this have something to do with the situation?

Thanks.
