The problem began with Office 2000 Pro (after several years of installation),
with the last upgrade of the MS Updater. Since that time I can’t repair,
remove or re-install Office 2000 Pro, the Data1.msp file has apparently
become corrupt. I can locate the Data1 file on the CD, and direct the
installation/removal search to it, but it won’t bootstrap.
I thought if I purchased a full-version of Office 2003 Pro and installed it,
it would eliminate the authenticity problem with Office Updating … but it
doesn’t … apparently it’s still using the original msp/msi files, and as I’ve
already mentioned, I can’t Delete, Repair or Re-install Office 2000 Pro. I’m
surely not the only person to have valid copies of Office disabled. The links
provided on the Microsoft site to report and/or correct this problem
apparently are no longer available. This sure does make one wonder about
planned obsolescence doesn’t it? All other functions within Office 2000 Pro
had been working properly until the full-installation of Office 2003 Pro.
