How do I get page numbers to keep going?

I am creating a report for uni. I have section 1 for the cover page with no
page number, section 2 for the table of content with page number of I and
then I have section 3 starting at page 1. It has 1 on the first page of
section 3 but it doesn't continue to page two.
How can I fix this?

WORD 2007

Take the following actions (this is for page numbers to appear on the left
hand side of the footer or centre aligned page numbers):-

1. Go into Section 3 / Insert / Header & Footer group / Footer / Edit Footer
/

2. Make sure you are at the following point:-

Footer -Section 3-

3. Header & Footer Tools / Design contextual tab / Navigation group / click
on Link to Previous (which should be highlighted in orange).

After you click on it it should no longer be highlighted in orange.

If you want your page numbers to be centre aligned tab once at this point
(otherwise page numbers will appear on the far left hand side of footer).

(If you want right aligned page numbers I THINK you hit tab twice but I did
not test this specifically when I ran this routine).

4. Ctrl F9

The following will now display:-

{}

5. In the middle of the above type the word page so that it appears as
follows:-

{page}

6. Hit ALT F9 twice.

The number 3 should now appear on the far left hand side of the footer.

7. You should still be in Header & Footer Tools at this point in the Design
contextual tab.

Go to the Header & Footer group / Page Number / Format Page Numbers . . . /
in the pop up window that appears click in Start at: and make sure that it is
set to the number 1 / OK.

Notice that the page number now changes to 1 (from 3).

8. Now if you insert another page (page number 4 when I did the above
routine) it will bear the number 2.

I think that the above gives you what you want.

If you agree please hit Yes.

Thanks.

It seems as if you have the "Different first page" option enabled in Page Setup;
that option creates a separate header (and footer) for the first page of a
section. Just add the page number to the main header (or footer).
