How do I get permission to access files on my hard drive from ano.

My laptop was stolen over the weekend and now I cannot access my external
hard drive with another computer. All the files are showing, but it cannot
open. It says that I need permission to open the files. How can I lift the
permission or change my user settings to get access to these files?

My sympathies for your loss and the ensuing difficulties resulting
therefrom. However, I am doubtful that you will find an answer to your
question in this newsgroup. It is dedicated primarily to questions about
programming in Word - usually using Word VBA - whereas the behaviour you have
described is most likely related to the operating system, the external hard
drive itself or some sort of security application, such as anti-virus
software. I would suggest that you present your question to a resource for
one of these other potential causes; i.e. in a Windows newsgroup or to the
support function for the manufacturer of your external hard drive or the
vendor of your anti-virus software.
